Standing face to face in Sultanahmet Square, these two masterpieces are the greatest symbols of a city that has guided empires for centuries. 🕌 A Masterpiece That Even Impressed Mimar Sinan: Hagia Sophia
Built centuries before Sultanahmet, Ayasofya was the world's largest cathedral during the Byzantine Empire. After the conquest, this structure, converted into a mosque, deeply influenced every aspect of Ottoman architecture.
The greatest Ottoman architect, Mimar Sinan, spent years studying Hagia Sophia’s magnificent dome engineering and used it as a direct model for many of his grand mosques.

This building, nicknamed the "Blue Mosque" by foreign travelers due to its handcrafted Iznik tiles, remains an active place of worship today with its six minarets.
