Istanbul's Modern Playground: Caddebostan and Bağdat Street
If you're after modern shopping, glittering storefronts, and a lively lifestyle on the Asian side of Istanbul, Caddebostan and the legendary Bağdat Street are tailor-made for you!
This incredibly long, straight street is a true paradise. Whether you're looking for stylish clothes or want to spend hours in bookstores, this place never disappoints. Of course, shopping is just the beginning! The modern patisseries, cafes, and colorful bars and nightclubs that line the street add a unique energy to the area after sunset.
Let's squeeze in a small warning, though: As one of Turkey's most luxurious and sought-after areas, prices are well above average. But the cool ambiance is definitely worth it!
A Sweet Memory: The Zayn (Zeyn Chocolate) Legend
A few years ago, while strolling down the street, I stumbled upon an amazing spot called Zayn. I still can't forget the incredibly delicious, chocolatey, and fruity "bohça" dessert I had there - it was simply perfect. If you're having a sweet craving and happen to be in the area, you absolutely must find this place. (You can see exactly what I'm talking about in the video below!)
A Typical Turkish Move: The Great Clash Between the Health Warrior and the Sugar Monster
Now, hold on tight, because the role of tea in Turkish and Middle Eastern culture is a whole different story. For us, tea is not just a drink, it's almost a national identity. The funniest part is that a typical Turkish person won't add even a hint of refined sugar to their tea. In fact, they'll proudly shout to the world, "Look, I'm living so healthily, I'm maintaining my figure!"
But the same person will then pair that sugar-free and innocent tea with a gigantic dessert smothered in chocolate, creating a calorie tsunami! This is the flawless and hypocritical (yet incredibly delicious) balancing act practiced by millions of Turkish citizens every day. It's that fine Turkish line between living healthily and indulging with all your heart.
So, be sure to order a tea to go with those amazing desserts at Zayn. And here's a small tip: Absolutely ask for your tea in a classic, slender tea glass. Once you try the tea-and-chocolate combo in that legendary glass, I guarantee you'll never be able to give it up again!
