History of the Spice Bazaar

Construction of the Spice Bazaar began in 1660 and was completed in 1664. The market was built as part of the New Mosque Complex.

The name “Spice Bazaar” comes from its financing with taxes collected from the Egyptian Province during the Ottoman era. Rental income from the market was also used to cover the expenses of the New Mosque.

What Can You Buy at the Spice Bazaar?

You can find hundreds of different items in the market. The most popular products are:
