Flawless Pizza in Kadıköy :)
When one thinks of Istanbul, historical texture, the scent of spices, and the silhouette of minarets against the Bosphorus usually come to mind. However, as an experienced traveler knows, the soul of a city lies not only in its historical monuments, but in its modern and unexpected corners; for instance, in those moments when you find a slice of Napoli in the heart of Kadıköy.
The Soul of Kadıköy
If the "Historical Peninsula" is the heart of Istanbul, Kadıköy is the creative heartbeat of the city. Taking a journey on a Bosphorus ferry to reach the city, watching the changing silhouette accompanied by the sound of seagulls, is an absolute must of the Kadıköy experience. When you get off the ferry and walk through the historical fish market, you feel that change instantly: this is the meeting point of the city's creative youth, artists, and locals. Kadıköy is a perfect area of discovery for those who want to see the "real" Istanbul beyond the tourist guides.
My Culinary Discovery: Porto Napoli
While wandering through the winding streets of Kadıköy, where you can come across a new piece of street art or a peaceful bookstore at every corner, I stumbled upon Porto Napoli Pizza. In a city so rich in kebab and meze, perfecting a Neapolitan-style pizza takes courage. However, this place achieves this with an undeniable reality.
My personal favorite? Definitely the three-mushroom pizza. The combination of earthy flavors with a perfectly baked, light crust is truly unbeatable.
To Mention a Few Realities
To share the experience transparently, there are two points you should keep in mind:
1. Waiting in Line: Since the place is highly loved by locals, there is usually a short queue at the door. Be prepared to wait a little; you can even browse nearby record stores or check out the surrounding street art while waiting. It is absolutely worth the wait.
2. Atmosphere: The interior can get quite warm, especially during peak hours. Rather than being a long and cool escape, this is a high-energy and cozy spot.
Why Do Local Gems Matter?
Travel is a matter of balance. Spending your morning diving into Byzantine history, and crowning your afternoon with a perfect pizza among the locals... This is the core philosophy of every itinerary I design.
